Working with Brie Scolaro, LCSW

intro to the work.

I am an action-focused therapist and often use goal-oriented learning during and in-between my sessions. My ideal client is someone that values self-reflection and taking action in their life, while also being curious to explore the roots of difficult emotions, thoughts and patterns. As a clinical therapist and practice director with over 10 years of experience and a lifelong athlete, I understand the pressure of getting to your goals, finding fulfillment in life, performing at your highest level, and identifying the right tools to get you there.

A majority of my clients are driven, passionate students and professionals in NYC that aim to be the best in what they do - whether it is the performing arts, law, engineering, sports, corporate work, and who also often have a value around social justice - wanting to make the world a better place in some capacity.

If you're ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery, deep reflection, and lasting change, I invite you to schedule a complimentary phone consultation. It would be an honor to stand by your side as you take strides toward living the life you deeply desire.

  • Whether you are battling procrastination, managing symptoms of ADHD or otherwise identify as neurodivergent, evaluate and improve your current system to getting and staying organized in relation to what it means to you. Neurodiversity is seen as something to be celebrated! Use our session as a time to identify and prioritize action items, anticipate the logistics of the week, and learn skills to help you show up and meet the demands of everyday life.

  • Use technology to train your physiological response to stress. Learn how heart rate, breath and emotions together can increase your resilience to stress, improve physical health markers, and strengthen performance under pressure. Sessions focus on training using Biofeeback technologies either as a standalone treatment or alongside traditional talk therapy.

  • Folx that grew up in highly critical or judgmental environments tend to learn that emotions (and expressing them) are bad. This can create problems in the present moment and look like anxiety, panic, low self-esteem, sensitivity to criticism, body/food control, mood swings and more.

  • I have over 10 years experience treating anxiety and anxiety disorders in different forms. This includes Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Attacks, Health Anxiety, Social Anxiety, and more. I have found anxiety disorders are highly responsive to behavioral approaches to therapy, and that if left untreated anxiety disorders do tend to intensify.

therapy modalities:

I meet my clients where they are at and honor their stories and unique experiences. I focus on creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can feel seen, heard and welcome for exactly who you are. If you're not sure how to begin, the first step is starting the conversation and trusting that together, we will find the right path for you. I am trained in the following modalities:

  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

  • Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

  • Biofeedback / HRV Training

  • Coaching (Sports, Performance, Business)

  • Schema Therapy

starting individual sessions.

I maintain a small portfolio of clients to ensure I give each member of my team the energy and attention they deserve. In between sessions, I often assignment homework and/or reflective assignments to strengthen the skills and concepts we review together. I recognize that trust has to be earned, and that while therapy alone can be tremendously helpful, it often lacks a focus on committed action.

How should I prepare for my first session with you?

After the free phone consultation, our first appointment together is the intake assessment (60 minutes). More evaluative in nature, this first session is focused on a deeper look into your history (work, family, social, relationship, current symptoms) to further understand what brings you to therapy. This allows me to craft an individualized treatment plan that is tailored to your goals. After this session, I will prompt you to continue to explore your goals for therapy - what are you looking to get out of our work? How will we know the work is successful? And together, we will determine the treatment plan and decide initial therapy goals.
